Gary BAyley the saxophonist

Gary has been playing the saxophone since 1970. He has played modern jazz, soul, funk, and big-band swing, as well as appearing in the recording studio as a pop 'session player'. Radio Three has said: '... a fine original soloist in the British jazz tradition...' and The Guardian newspaper reviewed: '... an explosive improvising talent with a spit-fire technique...'. Jazzwise magazine reviewed him as 'Immense'. He was the flautist with The Elizabethan Consort of Musicke and the saxophonist in the electro-fusion band LeftBank. He is currently in the ranks of legendary composer/orchestra leader Mike Westbrook. He has appeared at The London Jazz Festival five times as well as Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club (London).

Dr Gary BAyley the Educator

Gary has taught in the state system since 1986. He has taught at Kaitaia College New Zealand, Exeter College and is the former Head of Chemistry at Southampton City College. He is the former co-ordinator of several Post Graduate Certificate in Education courses for Southampton University.

He has been designing and delivering structured jazz workshop courses since 1998 as well as teaching saxophone students and mentoring professional saxophonists.

Gary's 'Jazz Performance Workshop Manual' is in preparation for publication. He has been involved in projects with the National Youth Jazz Collective and Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra and co-founded The Southampton Musicians Collective and the Music Performance Education Group (MusicPeg).

Gary is currently working on a new book: 'George Russell's Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organisation: A Practical Guide for Instrumentalists'. He has recently been touring with his show 'Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Jazz', words and music with audience participation for music lovers and jazz listeners.
